Getting recycled plastic back to food-contact use

Recycled plastic returning to food packaging faces strict safety standards and international market access rules. The core question for buyers: can recovered material be verified as safe, stable, and traceable enough for food-contact use?

Guolong Plastic (国龙再生) has focused on this threshold. The company integrates recovery, washing, sheet extrusion, thermoforming, and bottle-to-bottle pellet production into a single chain.

FDA challenge test

In June 2020, Guolong began a PET recycled material challenge test at the US FDA's official laboratory. The test ran for two years and covered the full process chain. Guolong became the first company in the Asia-Pacific region to pass the FDA challenge test and receive A-H all-condition compliance, covering conditions from high-temperature sterilization to frozen storage. This allows its recycled PET to enter a broad range of food-contact applications.

Integrated international production line

Guolong's production line combines proprietary core technology with equipment from European and American suppliers:

• Italy SOREMA PET bottle crushing and washing line
• Norway TOMRA optical sorting equipment
• Austria EREMA pelletizing line with deodorization
• Switzerland BUHLER SSP solid-state polycondensation
• Germany KIEFEL high-speed thermoforming and cup-making lines
• Austria SML/EREMA three-layer co-extrusion rPET sheet line

Certifications include FDA, EFSA, GRS, ISCC PLUS, ISO 14067 carbon footprint, BRC, TÜV OK Recycled, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.

About the exhibitor

Guolong operates from the Wuzhou Circular Economy Park in Guangxi. Site area is 316.8 mu, with 120,000 m2 of factory and office space and total investment above RMB 1.5 billion. Six recycling projects: recycled PET, recycled HDPE, recycled PP, recycled LDPE, modified recycled material, and recycled pipe material.
